Teaching and learning

The traditional ‘basics’ of reading, writing, handwriting and spelling are taught explicitly as part of our Literacy Blocks.
Understanding and utilising new technologies including digital and electronic media are part of our Literacy Block learning.
All students are engaged in literacy learning activities for approximately 10 hours per week. Teachers plan learning experiences that connect with existing knowledge and skills and promote a depth of understanding. Literacy learning is designed to be purposeful and relevant and stimulates inquiry, action, reflection and enjoyment.
Numeracy is also a priority learning area in our class programs. Being numerate is about competency with numbers and of importance, the ability to use mathematical skills to understand the practical mathematical demands of everyday life.

In addition to teaching basic arithmetic skills, our programs provide students with opportunities to learn mental maths strategies, engage in mathematical investigations and problem solving and critically reflect on their learning and use teacher talk to describe their learning.

At Eagleby State School, we provide a comprehensive Specialist Program from Prep through to Year 6. The classes include:
  • The Arts (Visual Art, Music and Dance)
  • Physical Education
  • Oral Language
  • Science
  • LOTE (Japanese)
  • ICT
